Job Title: Nursing Assistant

Department: Clinical Services

Reports To: Operations Manager and Lead Clinician

Location: Birmingham, Wandsworth, and Mobile Testing Sites within the West Midlands and Greater London Areas[requirement subject to expansion for further region coverage]

Salary: £23,200 per annum

Hours: Full-Time, 37.5 hours per week

Job Purpose:

To provide high-quality nursing care and support to patients within both in-clinic and mobile health testing environments. The role involves collecting and handling samples, conducting point-of-care tests using lateral flow devices, and ensuring all procedures are conducted in line with our clinical governance and quality assurance documentation and standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Care and Interaction:
  • Greet and welcome patients, ensuring they feel comfortable and informed about the testing process.
  • Provide clear and empathetic communication regarding test procedures and results.
  • Maintain the highest standards of patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality at all times.
  • Sample Collection and Handling:
  • Collect samples from patients, including fingerprick and venous blood samples.
  • Assist patients in providing urine and other bodily fluid samples when required.
  • Properly package and store samples for transport to accredited laboratories.
  • Ensure all sample collection and handling procedures comply with clinical governance and quality assurance protocols.

 

Point-of-Care Testing:

  • Conduct point-of-care tests using lateral flow devices and other approved methods.
  • Accurately record and report test results to patients and clinicians.
  • Ensure all testing equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and used in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and health regulations.

 

Mobile Testing Operations:

  • Travel to patient locations within the designated service areas to provide mobile health testing services.
  • Set up and operate mobile testing equipment efficiently and safely.
  • Ensure all mobile testing sites are clean, organized, and comply with health and safety standards.

 

Administrative Duties:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records.
  • Assist with the scheduling of appointments and managing patient flow within clinics.
  • Support administrative staff with data entry, filing, and other clerical tasks as needed.

 

Training and Development:

  • Participate in all required training sessions, including clinical training, infection control, and use of testing equipment.
  • Continuously seek opportunities to improve professional competencies and stay current with best practices in nursing and health testing.

 

Team Collaboration:

  • Work collaboratively with other nursing assistants, clinicians, and administrative staff.
  • Provide support and mentorship to junior staff and new hires.
  • Actively participate in team meetings and contribute to a positive work environment.

 

Compliance and Ethical Conduct:

  • Adhere to all company policies, including those related to data protection, health and safety, and ethical conduct.
  • Report any concerns or incidents in line with company procedures.
  • Maintain high standards of honesty, integrity, and professionalism at all times.

 

Qualifications and Skills:

Education: No formal academic requirements. NVQs/SVQs in Care at Levels 2 and 3 are preferred.

Experience: Previous experience in a healthcare or clinical setting is desirable.

Skills:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Competence in using point-of-care testing equipment.
  • Basic IT skills, including proficiency in data entry and use of electronic health records.

 

Other Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid DBS check.
  • Driving license preferred for mobile testing roles.
  • Working Conditions:
  • The role involves working in both in-clinic and mobile settings.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays as required.
  • Ability to travel within the designated service areas for mobile testing.
  • Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to perform tasks that involve physical activity, such as lifting and moving equipment.
  • Capability to stand or walk for extended periods during testing procedures.
